New German Citizenship
Law for Application 2023-2024: Germany citizenship Requirement
Speaking during a press conference in Berlin, Interior
Minister Nancy Weiser shared. We're introducing a fresh immigration bill that
will positively impact our diverse and modern nation. This stands as one of the
most noteworthy reforms within our coalition government, and I'm thrilled to
see it come into action."
Weiser highlighted that these changes aren't only aimed at
attracting highly skilled foreign workers and boosting competitiveness for
German businesses but also at seamlessly integrating exceptional talents into
society. Our economy immediately needs skilled professionals across several
sectors and the best attentions will be drawn to us when they can actually
become a part of our society."
Children born in Germany to non-German parents will now have
the opportunity to gain German citizenship if at least one parent has been a
legal resident of the country for a minimum of five years. These children will
also retain their parents' citizenship.
Currently, more than 12 million individuals, making up about
14% of the population in Germany do not possess German citizenship. Official
statistics reveal that approximately 5.3 million of them have lived in the
country for a decade or more.
Two years back when the Social Democrats, Greens, and Free
Democrats established a three-party coalition government, revamping the German
citizenship law was a key focus of the coalition agreement
